Valentine's Bouquet - Dutch Masters Style
Northumbrian Flowers is a local flower farm and floristry business, run by the talented Kate Norris; she specialises in British grown flowers. Valentine’s Day is a key date in the floristry world and competition is fierce, especially from the supermarkets who have no qualms about selling imported flowers from far afield, at rock bottom prices. A questionable practice at least. My motto is buy local, and locally grown whenever you can.
Kate asked me to photograph some of her signature Valentine’s bouquets for her website and online presence. When the gorgeous bouquets were dropped off at my studio, I felt they were perfect for a ‘dutch masters’ look. I used a black backdrop, some negative fill and daylight with a scrim to soften the look. To make the colours pop I used a Lee Circular Polarising Filter, which I think really enhanced the quality of the images. This is my favourites from the shoot.
